Is that "free" AI tool really free?

Want the free tools, 10 prompts and a scam check on one page? The $1 Starter.
The six checks
- What is the limit? Messages per day, words per month, files, projects. It is written on the tool's own plan or pricing page.
- What happens at the limit? You may wait until it resets, be moved to a weaker model, or be stopped half way through a job.
- Is a card asked for? A free plan stays free. A free trial ends and then charges. If a card is required to start, it is a trial.
- What happens to what you type? Some tools may use your text to improve the product unless you switch it off. Look for a data or privacy setting before you paste anything personal.
- Any rules on the free plan? Some free plans are for personal use only, add a watermark, or limit how you can export.
- How do you cancel? Find the cancel page before you enter a card, not after.
Free plan or free trial?
A free plan has no end date and no card. A free trial gives you the paid features for a short time and charges when it ends unless you cancel. Both are called "free" in adverts. Only the first stays free.
Limits change
Free limits are changed by the companies, often without notice. Read the limit on the tool's own page on the day you rely on it. Do not trust a list that has no date.
Where the limits are written down
We read the free limits of ten popular tools on their own pages on 2026-10-15 and wrote them next to each tool name, with the page we read. That list is part of the $1 Starter below. Look at the tool's page again before you rely on a number.
Questions
What is the difference between a free plan and a free trial?
A free plan has no end date and usually needs no card. A free trial lets you use paid features for a short time and then charges you unless you cancel before it ends.
Do free AI tools use what I type?
Some may use it to improve their product unless you switch that off. Read the tool's privacy or data settings, and keep passwords, bank details and ID numbers out of any AI tool.
How do I stop a free trial from charging me?
Find the cancel option in the account or billing settings on the day you start, and set a reminder for a day before the trial ends. If you cannot find a cancel page, do not enter a card.
